The quadrennial World Cup tournament is the most popular sporting event in the world. Interested in moving to longer-term sponsorship deals, FIFA turned to IEG for help.
We started by forecasting the global marketing, economic and cultural conditions for the 2010-2014 time period. As part of the forecast we thoroughly analyzed FIFA’s competitive sponsorship, licensing and broadcast landscape —, including revenue intelligence on the ICC Cricket World Cup, ITF Davis Cup, Formula One Racing, Major League Baseball, Major League Soccer, the National Basketball Association, the National Football League, IRB Rugby World Cup, Summer and Winter Olympics, and UEFA Soccer.
We then conducted an independent, third- party Valuation of FIFA’s assets. Armed with IEG Valuation statements for the worldwide rights fees for the World Cup tournaments, FIFA quickly sold in new packages at higher fees, increasing its sponsorship revenue by more than $140 million, scoring the largest sponsorship increase in its history.
