Museum of Science Boston

See how we helped Museum of Science Boston revitalize its approach to corporate partners with new offerings

With nearly 1.6 million visitors annually, MOS is one of the most popular indoor attractions in New England. Prior to engaging IEG, the museum was generating about $1 million annually in sponsorship from eight corporate sponsors that tied into IMAX Films, permanent exhibits, planetarium shows and other programs. MOS also had relationships with several hundred corporate donors.

The museum was interested in working with IEG to freshen up its sponsorship offerings and determine appropriate rights fees based on the current marketplace. In addition to generating increased revenue, MOS wanted sponsorship to optimize exposure and visibility for the museum in what is a highly competitive tourism market. And most important, the museum needed a plan that was proactive and also worked symbiotically with its other fundraising efforts, enabling the museum to optimize its corporate revenue through various channels.

IEG performed an in-depth analysis of MOS’s assets, current sponsorships and non-marketing corporate relationships, through an in-person visit, contract and document review, and conversations. IEG also evaluated the museum’s organizational structure to fully understand the relationships different departments within the organization had with corporations.

IEG created a multi-tiered sponsorship strategy that offered a variety of sales and marketing options for corporate partners. IEG also recommended a revamped sales and servicing structure. When fully realized, the new plan would nearly double the museum’s sponsorship revenue, while leaving plenty of opportunity to generate additional funding from corporate donors. MOS’s highest-level package increased 80 percent in value. Within a year of working with IEG, MOS signed two premier partners and renewed an existing sponsor of a blockbuster exhibit for five more years.
