If you spend enough time immersed in sponsorship, it can be easy for deals and activations to run together and not seem all that new or surprising. So it’s not often that a deal makes me sit up and say, “How cool is that?” Well, reading this bit of news made me do just that.
Last month, Best Buy opened the first in-hospital Geek Squad tech support precinct at Children’s in Minneapolis, the company’s hometown.
The precinct is intended to serve the personal technology needs of patients, families and staff. Along with its typical paid services, the Children’s Geek Squad offers a variety of complimentary services to patients and their families, including digital camera support, loaner laptops and photo printing. Best Buy is also consulting Children’s on in-room technology upgrades. Judging by the regular tweets from @GSChildrensHosp, it also looks like the Geek Squad agents value the opportunity to serve this unique audience.
When working with hospitals, we hear a universal concern about corporate intrusion on the patient experience, coupled with a desire to elevate corporate partnerships beyond recognition plaques. This relationship would seem to address both points, with a corporate partner who respects the experience of patients and their families and is working to support and improve that experience in a totally authentic and relevant way.
How cool is that?
