Position Summary:

IEG has an outstanding opportunity for a senior business development professional ready to strengthen client relationships, support growth initiatives and enter new markets active in sponsorship. The Senior Vice President, Business Development will drive new revenue to IEG by focusing broadly on big spending sponsors and properties. He/she will champion IEG’s products and services and place IEG within the decision set of major sponsorship initiatives throughout North America and around the world.

Core Responsibilities:

The SVP Business Development will introduce key decision makers in the sponsorship world to the expertise of IEG. This person will take on a leadership role in developing new business opportunities from his/her own relationships within the marketplace as well as from leads provided by IEG. Specifically, the SVP Business Development will:

  • Strategically Access Business Development Opportunities – Apply knowledge of the sponsorship industry and market trends to identify key prospects and obtain meetings with key decision makers.
  • Make Things Happen -- Maintain a visible presence in the marketplace, get meetings with key decision makers, and develop meaningful business relationships with active sponsorship prospects.
  • Provide Sales Leadership – Generate new business by creating connection points for IEG ensuring that IEG is well represented in new business pitches.
  • Serve as an Industry Expert – Understand sponsorship issues within the context of the entire marketing mix and reasons for engaging IEG with each prospect.
  • Achieve Financial Goals – Apply knowledge of IEG competitive differentiators in sales situations and be responsible for closing new business.
  • Create/Extend Revenue Opportunities – Identify new and relevant product/service offerings and/or marketing opportunities for IEG.
  • Build Awareness and Exude Credibility – Be responsible for keeping IEG top of mind with clients as the “go to” company for strategic counsel, competitive intelligence and analytics in the areas of sponsorship and strategic alliances.

Relevant Experience & Skills:

The executive we seek will possess superior business development skills while having a deep understanding of sponsorship and significant access to decision-makers in the market. He/she must be capable of gaining leadership and respect on the strength of his/her ability to think critically and creatively, and be able to influence through subtlety rather than power. Experience selling to marketers (CMO, VP Marketing, etc. and their agencies) would be helpful. Ideally, the ideal candidate will possess many, if not all, of the following skills and attributes:

  • Minimum of ten years of sales experience with several years successfully selling consulting services to senior-level executives.
  • Sponsorship industry or marketing industry expertise where sponsorship was part of the overall package.
  • Proven track record of developing and closing new account business and meeting sales objectives.
  • Industry credibility which will allow quick access to key constituencies.
  • Ability to embrace and digest facts and provide insight.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills.
  • Strong verbal and presentation skills; able to tell compelling stories and be a persuasive presenter.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word/Excel/PowerPoint and Outlook.
  • Ability to work independently and deal effectively with others, both internally and externally.
  • Unassailable ethics and a high degree of professionalism in all aspects of conduct.
  • BA/BS required; MBA or graduate degree is a plus.
